Moldova is ready for Gazprom's possible refusal to supply gas to the Transnistrian region via alternative routes from January 1, 2025 – the Energy Ministry
This was stated by Energy Minister Victor Parlicov during a meeting with the EU Special Representative in the Transnistrian settlement process, Head of the Directorate of Georgia, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Belarus within the European External Action Service (EEAS) Dorota Dloughi-Suliga. The subject of discussions was the prospects of natural gas supplies to the Transnistrian region after January 1, 2025, when the contract for gas transit from Russia through Ukraine expires. The sides discussed the possible scenarios Moldova is considering and the measures prepared. The Energy Minister said that Russia has all the technical possibilities to ensure gas supplies to the Transnistrian region via alternative routes, and in case of a gas supply cut-off, there are technical possibilities to supply electricity and gas to consumers from both banks of the Dniester. In this context, Victor Parlicov said that the Energy Ministry has prepared a winter preparation plan of 44 measures applicable to the supply of energy and gas in the cold season. The plan also envisages two main scenarios, one of which is Gazprom's refusal to supply gas to the Transnistrian region via alternative routes after the expiration of the contract for transit through Ukraine on January 1, 2025 // 19.11.2024 - InfoMarket.
