The EU has commended Moldova's progress in developing the electricity and gas markets and integrating them into the single European energy market – the Energy Ministry
The Energy Ministry reported that this was said during the 11th meeting of the Moldova-EU Trade Configuration Committee held in Brussels. Moldova's progress in the development of the electricity and natural gas markets and in the integration into the single European energy market was presented at the meeting by Energy Ministry State Secretary Constantin Borosan. He noted that Moldova has made significant progress in this field lately. In particular, the Third Energy Package has been implemented by completing the unbundling in the electricity and natural gas sectors: Moldelectrica and VMTG are certified according to the ISO (Independent System Operator) model. The natural gas exchange BRM EST Moldova has been operating since April 2024. Almost all natural gas consumed is bought on the BRM platform. Spot trading started in October 2024. OPEM Electricity Exchange was appointed as the electricity market operator in February 2024. Public consultations on the exchange registration procedures are underway. “The mechanism for implementation of direct interbank debit is being clarified. A VAT reverse chargeback mechanism will be introduced soon to facilitate cross-border exchanges. We aim to start transactions as early as this year. The progress and transformations in the energy sector of our country have been positively evaluated by the EU institutions. This is the merit of every Moldovan person and organization working in the energy sector,” Constantin Borosan said. // 18.11.2024 - InfoMarket.
