OMV Petrom is appealing the decision of the Competition Council to charge a fine of 77.8 million lei on Petrom Moldova.
As OMV Petrom notes in a statement, it took note of the decision of the Competition Council regarding the fuel market of Moldova, but categorically rejects the conclusions of the antimonopoly authority and will appeal to the competent court to protect its rights. It is emphasized that the OMV Petrom group, which includes Petrom Moldova, pursues a strict policy of compliance with competition rules in all countries in which it operates, including Moldova. As noted, Petrom Moldova strictly complies with competition law requirements that are necessary for sustainable development. “Over the 20 years of its existence, Petrom Moldova has acted in good faith and established itself as a reliable partner in matters of fuel supply, payment of taxes and provision of jobs. In a market with regulated prices, the application of unreasonable and disproportionate fine calls into question the economic feasibility of doing business in the Moldovan market,” said OMV Petrom. As previously reported, the Competition Council fined 6 importers of petroleum products 480 million lei for agreeing to set retail prices for their products. These are the results of the investigation into the petroleum products market, initiated in 2021. According to the head of the Competition Council, Alexei Ghertescu, Rompetrol Moldova was fined 191.8 million lei, Lukoil Moldova – 180.2 million lei, Petrom Moldova – 77.8 million lei, Bemol Retail –29 million lei, Tirex Petrol –15 million lei, Datario –1.1 million lei. // 04.07.2024 — InfoMarket
