Moldova presented three energy interconnection projects with Ukraine and Romania at the Three Seas Initiative summit in Vilnius.
According to the Ministry of Energy, they were presented by the state secretary of the ministry, Cristina Pereteatcu, who is taking part in the 9th summit of the Three Seas Initiative (I3M), which is held annually in the Lithuanian capital and unites 13 countries located between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic seas - Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Romania, Greece and Bulgaria. During the meeting, the participants will analyze how the initiative should develop and adapt to the complex regional context, while increasing investments and implementing strategic interconnection projects in the three main areas of the initiative - transport, energy and digitalization. As the Ministry of Energy notes, due to the tragic events in Ukraine, Moldova has faced the harsh reality of energy uncertainty and vulnerability. The interconnection of energy systems with Romania and Ukraine is essential for Moldova's security and prosperity, and the development of clean hydrogen production also represents decisive steps in this direction. By participating in the I3M, Moldova has the opportunity to strengthen its energy independence and diversify its sources of supply. It is emphasized that during the summit Moldova presented three energy interconnection projects with Ukraine and Romania, which will have a great regional impact and are proposed to be financed and implemented with the instruments available within the I3M. These projects concern the improvement of regional interconnections, such as the construction of the second circuit of the 330 kV transmission line "Balti - Dniester HPP", the construction of the high-voltage transmission line "South-Ukrainian NPP-Primorsk-Vulcanesti Isaccea" (Ukraine-Moldova-Romania); increasing the capacity of the vertical corridor of the Trans-Balkan gas route and the implementation of green hydrogen production projects using renewable energy sources. The Moldovan Ministry of Energy emphasizes that the implementation of these projects will strengthen energy security, ensure sustainable development and reduce the environmental impact in the Central and Eastern European region. Moldova became an associate member state of the Three Seas Initiative (I3M) in September 2023. // 11.04.2024 - InfoMarket.
