Major oil companies from the United States are invited to participate in geological exploration work to assess the potential of geothermal energy in Moldova
The Ministry of Energy reported this, noting that such a proposal was conveyed to them by Energy Minister Victor Parlicov, who during his visit to the United States met with the President of the US Oil and Gas Industry Association, Tim Stewart, as well as representatives of Chevron, a producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG). During the discussions, Victor Parlicov emphasized the importance of Moldova's access to American liquefied natural gas as an alternative source to reduce the dependence of the entire region on Russian natural gas. In this context, the Minister of Energy emphasized the main changes in the structure of the gas and oil market in the European Union, taking into account the current embargo on oil imports from the Russian Federation and the EU’s intention to abandon Russian natural gas after 2027. Victor Parlicov highly appreciated the fact that the United States managed to time to become the largest exporter of liquefied gas in the world, and large companies were invited to explore export opportunities to Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria, where consumption of Russian energy resources is significantly reduced. Victor Parlicov also invited American oil companies to take part in geological exploration work to assess the potential of geothermal energy in Moldova. According to him, foreign companies using innovative technologies could contribute to the development of Sandboxes used to test new energy technologies. In this regard, the Minister of Energy informed American entrepreneurs that a legal framework is already being developed in Moldova, which will facilitate the emergence of the first Sandboxes, which is an important step for the energy sector in our country, which also aims to attract foreign investors to Moldova and support small and medium-sized entrepreneurs.// 10.04.2024 — InfoMarket.
