The National Agency for Energy Regulation issued LLC "Operatorul Pieței de Energie M" a license to operate the electricity market in Moldova

As reported by the National Agency for Energy Regulation, Operatorul Pieței de Energie M LLC is a subsidiary of the Romanian energy exchange OPCOM, and the license issued to it to operate the electricity market represents the implementation of another important commitment of Moldova in the energy sector towards European partners. As noted by NAER, this decision makes it possible to create and ensure the functioning of an organized electricity market in Moldova according to the standards of the European Energy Community. The operator is responsible for ensuring the functioning of the next day electricity market, the intraday electricity market and the organized contract market (the market for bilateral electricity contracts), as well as the subsequent possibility of international interaction. As previously reported by InfoMarket, LLC "Operatorul Pieței de Energie M" was appointed by the government of the Republic of Moldova as the operator of the electricity market in Moldova and will be responsible for the functioning of organized electricity markets. LLC "Operatorul Pieței de Energie M" is a subsidiary of JSC "OPCOM", registered in Moldova, as an operator of the electricity market. In connection with the entry into force of the Electricity Market Rules on June 1, 2022, in order to accelerate the development of the electricity market in Moldova, it was decided to appoint an electricity market operator to organize local short-term markets, the day-ahead market, the intraday market and ensure their future connection with other centralized markets in Europe (Single Day-Ahead Coupling (SDAC) and Single Intraday Coupling (SIDC)), since without such an operator it is impossible to create a truly competitive and functional market. The appointment of an operator of the electricity market in Moldova will contribute to: the efficient functioning of the electricity market; transparency and competition; risk management; increasing investor confidence. The market operator will be responsible for managing and facilitating transactions and operations in the electricity market. Thanks to the electricity market operator, the market will function more efficiently, providing better energy supply and optimizing the use of available resources. The electricity market operator must promote transparency and competition in the electricity market. By establishing and enforcing fair and equitable rules, it will create a market environment in which all participants have an equal opportunity to compete, which can lead to lower prices, more competitive prices for consumers. // 19.03.2024 — InfoMarket.
