USAID donated a batch of 10 drones worth $1 million to Moldelectrica to fly over and check the performance of high-voltage overhead power lines.
According to Moldelectrica, the donation was made within the framework of the USAID project to improve the energy security of Moldova - MESA and is aimed at modernizing the electricity transportation infrastructure, strengthening Moldelectrica's ability to collect information on the state of the power grid and promptly respond to possible incidents or failures. Drones equipped with state-of-the-art digital transmission line monitoring systems will make power grid surveillance more efficient by collecting detailed aerial photographs over vast areas, reducing data collection costs, and improving the safety of Moldelectrica employees. Employees of the enterprise will be trained to operate drones, both for regular inspection of power grids and for emergency scenarios related to energy infrastructure. USAID has been working with Moldelectrica for more than 10 years to strengthen the company's cybersecurity, conduct renewable energy feasibility studies, and facilitate the interconnection of the electricity systems of Moldova and Romania, and indirectly with the ENTSO-E system. // 24.08.2023 — InfoMarket.
