Continental Europe's Transmission System Operators (TSOs) of electricity or natural gas have agreed to increase capacity for electricity trade in Moldova and Ukraine by 200 MW to 1,050 MW.

Continental Europe's Transmission System Operators (TSOs) of electricity or natural gas have agreed to increase capacity for electricity trade in Moldova and Ukraine by 200 MW to 1,050 MW.

According to a press release from ENTSO-E, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, this increase will be applied once the connection between Ukraine/Moldova and continental Europe is strengthened in May. Moldova and Ukraine synchronized their power systems with Continental (ENTSO-E) in February 2022 and since then, the capacity available for trade between the two power systems has increased to 850 MW of maximum EU import capacity and 400 MW of maximum export capacity. The new decision to increase import capacity to 1,050 MW will strengthen Moldova's energy security and contribute to better integration into the EU single market. It is also noted that in the coming weeks, transport network operators will assess whether a further increase in trading capacity between continental Europe and Ukraine/Moldova in both directions can be envisaged. The commercial exchange of electricity between Continental Europe and Ukraine/Moldova began in June 2022 after the successful synchronization of the respective power systems a few weeks earlier. Let us remind that a Transmission System Operator (TSO) is an entity tasked with transporting energy in the form of natural gas or electricity. // 21.04.2023 – InfoMarket
