Moldova will be able to buy gas from Greece, taking advantage of favorable market conditions.
The Energy Ministry reported this, commenting on the results of the talks held in Athens between Moldovan Energy Minister Victor Parlicov and his Greek counterpart Kostas Skrekas, as well as the signing of a framework contract between Energocom and the Greek gas operator DEPA. Greece is the main gateway for liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Southern Europe, and more than half of that gas comes from the United States, the Energy Ministry said. Energocom is the first and so far the only company in the world with practical experience of using the "vertical corridor" Greece-Bulgaria-Romania-Moldova-Ukraine. "The cooperation between Moldova and Greece will allow us to enhance the role of underground gas storage facilities in Ukraine to provide Central Europe with natural gas during the cold season of this year. The experience of Energocom last season in using the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector showed that the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline can be used in reverse mode," Victor Parlicov said. During the visit to Greece, the Moldovan delegation met with Costas Fragoyiannis, Deputy Foreign Minister in charge of economic diplomacy, Kostas Sifnaios, director of Gastrade, which manages the LNG terminal project in Alexandroupolis, and Konstantinos Xifaras, director of the gas supply company DEPA. Other topics touched upon in Athens were Greece's experience in the energy transition, the decarbonization of the energy and transport system on the island of Astypalea and the development of the renewable energy sector. // 07.04.2023 – InfoMarket
