March 16 marks one year since the successful synchronization of the power systems of Moldova and Ukraine with the power system of continental Europe ENTSO-E.
This was announced by the Ministry of Energy, noting that this historic event brought Moldova closer to the European family, from where our country first imported electricity and reduced its energy dependence on Russia. “Thanks to our European and transatlantic partners, we have managed to get through this winter well and focus our efforts on building a secure, sustainable and competitive energy sector in Moldova. This year we have achieved many more achievements that were hard to imagine even 2 years ago: In Moldova, the Rules of the European electricity market began to apply, for the first time the country is no longer completely dependent on Russian gas, for the first time it buys gas on the spot market, for the first time gas reserves are secured for due to the reversal of the trans-Balkan gas pipeline, and strategic gas reserves appeared in the country,” the Ministry of Energy noted. They emphasized that other important plans are to be implemented this year: to launch an electricity market operator in Moldova, to ensure the complete separation of electricity and gas operators, to hold the first auctions for renewable energy sources for large capacities. “We will drastically reduce energy consumption by creating a Housing Energy Efficiency Fund,” the department stressed. // 17.03.2023 — InfoMarket
