The construction of the Vulcanesti - Chisinau 400 kV high-voltage power line will be completed by 2025, and the construction of the Balti - Suceava power line is also planned.

This statement was made by State Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development Constantin Borosan on air of TVR Moldova. He has said that a World Bank study has shown that the construction of a 600 megawatt back-to-back station in Vulcanesti is no longer technically and economically feasible. Therefore, the officials have reached an agreement with the development partners to reallocate the money meant for the back-to-back station to the Balti-Suceava power line. Constantin Borosan said that the construction of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau transmission line is a priority in order to reduce the technical dependency, as the line from Vulcanesti to Isaccea passes through the Moldovan State District Power Plant (MGRES) before reaching Chisinau. The State Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development said that the Vulcanesti-Chisinau transmission line will be completed by 2025, with a 20% success rate in its construction planned for this year. The technical design of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau transmission line will be completed by the end of February. Stability tests of all types of poles have already been conducted. The construction of the line itself will start in the spring of 2023. "We are optimistic about the completion of the project by 2025 in accordance with the agreed plan," said Constantin Borosan. At the same time, according to him, it is extremely important to increase the interconnection with Romania and therefore the feasibility study for the construction of the Balti-Suceava transmission line has already been completed. Negotiations are held with the financing partners - EBRD, EIB and EU, in order to redirect the funds meant for the back-to-back station to this line. The matter concerns almost 40 million euros. As InfoMarket agency earlier reported, the contract for construction of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau high-voltage line worth 27 million euros has been signed with the Indian company KEC International. Its construction is expected to be completed in 2024. The transmission line will be built within the framework of a 260 million euros project on interconnection of the electricity networks of Moldova and Romania, the goal of which is to ensure energy security of the country by connecting Moldova with the internal energy market of the European Union through power lines and strengthening domestic energy transportation networks. The project is to be implemented until the end of 2024 with the support of the EBRD (80 million euros loan), EIB (80 million euros loan), International Development Association from the World Bank Group (61 million euros loan) and European Union (39.4 million euros grant). // 07.02.2023 - InfoMarket.
