Energocom purchased 3.2 million MWh of electricity in 2022 at a weighted average price of 2,085 lei per MWh (2.08 lei/kWh).

As noted in the message of the state company, at the same time, about 57% of the total volume was purchased from the Moldavskaya GRES located in the Transnistrian region, 34% was imported from Romania and Ukraine, and 9% of the total purchases fell on electricity generated on the right bank Dniester (CHP-7%, energy from renewable sources - 2%). In 2022, Energocom purchased electricity directly from 10 producers in Moldova, Ukraine and Romania, as well as from a number of economic agents with the status of an eligible renewable energy producer. According to the provisions of the Commission for Emergency Situations, from May to December 2022, Energocom was authorized to buy the necessary electricity from the market. As noted, last year Energocom for the first time entered into contracts for the purchase of electricity directly, without intermediaries, from producers in Ukraine and Romania, and when necessary, it also purchased electricity on the Romanian stock exchange, having previously obtained a trading license from the NAER of Romania and opened its own representation in a neighboring country. This step helped Moldova purchase in November 2022 82% of its electricity needs from Romania, following a reduction in gas supplies to Moldova by Gazprom and Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities. As noted in the message of Energocom, in contrast to 2021, in 2022, thermal power plants in Chisinau and Balti produced less electricity. One of the explanations is warmer weather, which led to a more rational consumption of gas. At the same time, renewable energy production increased slightly (only Energocom's contracts with companies with eligible producer status were taken into account). Between June and September, when Thermal power plants are at their lowest activity, green energy purchased by Energocom exceeds the amount supplied by Thermal power plants. This means that during the warm period, thermal power plants operate at a minimum capacity and it is necessary to purchase large volumes from producers outside the country. As for purchase prices, the lowest price per 1 kWh in 2022 was at the Moldavskaya GRES: 1.19 lei. In Ukraine, Energocom purchased an average of 1 kWh for 1.51 lei. On the local market (right bank of the Dniester) 1 kW/h cost 3.5 lei, while in Romania, especially purchases on the stock exchange, led to a weighted average price of about 3.72 lei. These are purchase prices excluding operating costs, customs clearance, delivery and distribution. The tariff for end consumers is approved by the National Agency for Energy Regulation based on the current methodology. // 01.02.2023 — InfoMarket
