Moldova is interested in joint natural gas purchases with the European Union on the EU common purchase platform.
This was stated by Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita at a meeting in Germany with Manfred Weber, chairman of the European People's Party, leader of the EPP group in the European Parliament. Gavrilita thanked Weber for supporting Moldova in the process of acceding to the European Union and highlighted the government's progress in the fulfillment of the nine conditions for the launch of negotiations on the country's accession to the EU. Natalia Gavrilita also touched upon the economic, social and security situation in Moldova, referring to challenges faced in managing the energy crisis as a result of the war in Ukraine. Gavrilita spoke about the government's actions to back the people who suffered from rising prices of energy resources and natural gas, as well as to unblock logistic chains and re-orient Moldova's exports to the EU area. Natalia Gavrilita expressed gratitude for the EU's constant support via the Moldova Support Platform and confirmed Moldova's interest in purchasing natural gas from the EU's common purchase platform. "Access to this platform will allow us to strengthen the process of ensuring Moldova's energy security, affected by the blackmail of the Russian Federation. Despite the fact that we have been greatly affected by the price increase and the reduction of natural gas supplied by Gazprom, we continue to look firmly towards a European future," Natalia Gavrilita stressed during the discussion. MEP Manfred Weber reiterated the European Parliament's support for the reform agenda and praised the Moldovan government's efforts in managing the chain of crises that hit our country. // 09.01.2023 - InfoMarket.
