State-owned Energocom has started buying electricity through OPCOM, Romania's electricity and natural gas market operator.
Energocom has previously registered and became an active player on the Romanian electricity and natural gas market, and on October 29, Energocom made its first electricity purchase transaction on the Romanian exchange market, which is part of the European Union energy market, through OPCOM. Thus, 875 MWh was purchased the following day to cover hourly demand, which ranges from 20 MWh to 125 MWh on average, at a weighted average price of 132 euros/MWh. As noted, the purchase of electricity on the exchange market is considered the most transparent of the existing procurement procedures and will ensure the coverage of electricity shortages arising from insufficient electricity supply from all sources contracted by Energocom, as well as due to increased electricity consumption during this period. Accordingly, the shortage of electricity will be purchased daily from OPCOM. As noted by Energocom, OPCOM is the operator of the electricity and natural gas market in Romania and has the role of administrator of the electricity market, ensuring an organized, viable and efficient framework for commercial operations on the wholesale electricity market and carrying out centralized management of the natural gas market under conditions of consistency, fairness, objectivity, independence, equality, transparency and non-discrimination. Energocom thanked all energy consumers for their solidarity during this difficult period and urged them to continue responsible consumption of energy resources for a successful recovery from the crisis. While commenting on the launch of the electricity purchasing via OPCOM, Deputy Prime Minister, Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu said that Energocom took another step towards the diversification of sources of energy resources acquisition. He also noted the importance of saving electricity in order to ensure uninterrupted supplies and the lowest possible price for electricity. // 31.10.2022 – InfoMarket
