The electricity tariff for final consumers in Moldova may increase in November - Andrei Spinu.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development stated this, while speaking on the air of TV8. He noted that Moldova is currently covering the electricity deficit, which arose after Ukraine stopped supplying it and the reduction of supplies from the Moldovan HPP, by buying electricity from Romania at a price that is 4-5 times higher. "In November we will see how much more expensive electricity was eventually purchased from Romania under emergency contracts, and in early November the National Energy Regulatory Agency will review these documents and decide which tariff will be approved in November. How much it will change depends on the level of the deficit. Depending on the new tariff, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security will analyze the possibility of compensation to cover part of the new electricity tariffs," said Andrei Spinu. According to him, the calculation of new tariffs will largely depend on the amount of electricity purchased from Romania under emergency contracts. If they amount to 5-7% of the necessary volumes to cover the deficit - there will be one tariff, but if the deficit is much higher, and the volume of purchases will be more significant, then the tariff will increase more significantly, because the impact of more expensive electricity will be weighty. "A significant deficit will force the authorities to buy electricity from Romania and other EU countries at market prices, which will lead to a strong increase in the tariff," Andrei Spinu explained. He noted that today Moldova buys electricity from Romania at an average price of 260-280 euros per 1 MWh. Moreover, the price varies depending on time. It is cheaper during the day and at night and much more expensive during peak hours. In this regard, Deputy Prime Minister urged citizens to continue saving as much electricity as possible, so as not to have to buy large amounts of electricity at high prices in Romania and other EU countries. // 28.10.2022 - InfoMarket
