The risk of mass power outages remains in Moldova, the electricity shortage today is 7% of what is needed - Andrei Spinu.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development stated this, presenting up-to-date information on the situation in the energy sector. According to him, the situation is changing every day. For example, today 47% of the needs of right-bank Moldova in electricity are covered by the Moldavskaya GRES, to which the Moldovagaz company allocated another 0.5 million cubic meters of natural gas to increase electricity production on the account of the gas savings. Andrei Spinu specified that approximately 35% of Moldova's electricity needs are now covered under commercial contracts with Romania. He recalled that Energocom signed a contract with the Romanian OMV Petrom for the purchase of another 50 MW of electricity from Romania. At the same time, Termoelectrica, CET Nord, and other local producers generate 10% of the amount of electricity needed by the right-bank Moldova. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that today the electricity shortage is 7% and is covered by supplies under an emergency contract signed with the Romanian company Transelectrica. According to him, the shortage of electricity in Moldova can be reduced to zero if economic agents and citizens save more electricity, reduce its consumption at the call of the authorities. Andrei Spinu explained that the austerity measures taken last week, and especially the new measures from this Monday, are yielding results. He reiterated the importance of reducing electricity consumption, especially during peak hours. Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita noted that the electricity shortage is covered by the supply of more expensive electricity from Romania, and Moldova cannot afford to buy it for a long time, in large volumes, so citizens and companies should help the authorities and reduce electricity consumption, especially during peak hours.// 26.10.2022 — InfoMarket.
