According to preliminary data, about 80% of Moldova's consumers will receive compensation from the state for gas, heat and electricity.

Andrei Spinu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development announced this while speaking on Jurnal TV. He mentioned that the compensation will be granted automatically to those in need, through invoice, and its amount will depend on the level of energy vulnerability of a certain consumer, which will be established through a special mechanism, program, taking into account the analysis of several criteria, in particular, the income of the family and the share of its expenses for energy resources, family structure, type of heating system, etc. Andrei Spinu clarified that there is a mechanism developed to determine the energy vulnerability, which aims at facilitating a fair and more targeted payment of compensations to consumers, so that in contrast to the previous year, not everyone receives the same compensation, but the biggest assistance is given to the neediest. Deputy Prime Minister noted that there will be a total of 5 levels of energy vulnerability. The first evaluation criterion will be the income level of the family. "If it is a family of pensioners who have 3-4 thousand lei in total in their pension, they will obviously receive a higher compensation. And we understand that such families may be 30-40% of the population. Unfortunately, we are poor, but they will all get compensations and they will have more compensations than others. The second criterion is the ratio between energy costs and family income. There will be an analysis to see who needs more support from the state. The type of heating system will also be taken into account. The composition of the family will also be an important criterion. For example, if one person and a family with 3 children have the same income, but obviously a family with 3 children has more expenses, and they should receive more help. This mechanism is designed to provide more fairness in compensation. According to our calculations, about 80% of all consumers will receive compensation because the level of energy poverty in the country is very high at the current rate of tariff growth. Last year we also helped citizens in a differentiated way, but depending on the amount of gas consumption, but now there will be a more targeted and fair mechanism, taking into account the composition of the family, its income and spending on energy resources. In September, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security will explain in detail the whole mechanism; no one will be left without assistance and support. All those in need will receive it," said Deputy Prime Minister. // 05.08.2022 - InfoMarket
