
Moldova is interested in expanding cooperation with Japan in agriculture, education, health care, attracting new Japanese investors and abolishing visas for Moldovan citizens
Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popşoi stated this during a meeting in Tokyo with Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya. According to the Moldovan Foreign Ministry, the visit of the Moldovan diplomat to Tokyo is important for the consolidation of Moldovan-Japanese relations, given that the last visit of the Moldovan Foreign Minister to Japan took place 6 years ago. During the meeting with his Japanese counterpart, the Moldovan Foreign Minister discussed the consolidation of the political dialog between Moldova and Japan, mutually beneficial cooperation in such key fields as agriculture, education, healthcare and opportunities for Japanese businessmen. In this context, Mihai Popşoi emphasized Moldova's willingness to develop a bilateral legal framework to promote economic cooperation with Japan. At the same time, the sides discussed the latest international events that have a significant impact on the global and regional security. Mihai Popşoi thanked Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwai for the substantial support provided to Moldova by Japan, including through the Japan International Cooperation Agency. “Japan is an important partner and the support offered is essential for Moldova's modernization,” the foreign minister said. For his part, Takeshi Iwaya stressed that Japan will continue backing Moldova's efforts to join the European Union and will support projects in agriculture, infrastructure and industry that benefit the citizens. The Moldovan diplomat conveyed to his Japanese counterpart Moldova's interest in the abolition of the visa regime for Moldovan citizens, stressing that 10 years ago, Moldova refused the visa regime for Japanese citizens.
