The date of Moldovan presidential elections will be set by a decision of the Parliament at least 60 days before the Election Day, and the elections themselves will be held within 2 months after the post of the country's President becomes vacant.

This is stipulated by relevant amendments to the Electoral Code and the Law on Political Parties, approved by the Parliament at a plenary meeting on January 18 within the framework of an extraordinary session after receiving a request from Moldovan President Maia Sandu to reconsider the previously adopted draft law, which she did not promulgate and asked to revise it. The head of state's request touched upon the provisions of the legislative initiative, which concern the date of the Moldovan presidential election. This is necessary to ensure the predictability of the electoral process, as well as to organize and hold free, fair and transparent elections. Thus, the date of the election of the Moldovan President will be set by a parliamentary decision at least 60 days before the Election Day. Maia Sandu's request also referred to the inconsistency of the term of elections in case of vacancy of the post of the Moldovan President with the constitutional norms. In this regard, it was proposed to strictly follow the text of the constitutional norm in order to ensure its supremacy. Thus, in case of vacancy of the post of the Moldovan President, the elections will be held within 2 months from the date of the vacancy. It should be mentioned that the draft amendments to the Electoral Code and the Law on Political Parties were adopted by the Parliament at the end of the fall session and are aimed at improving the electoral process and ensuring transparency and fairness in the elections. // 18.01.2024 - InfoMarket.
