At the beginning of 2024, will take place the first intergovernmental conference, at which will be officially launched negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the EU.

This was announced by the co-chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on the Moldova-European Union Association, Siegfried Muresan, noting that the decision taken earlier by the European Council to begin negotiations with Moldova on accession to the EU once again confirms that the European Union supports Moldova’s desire to become a member of the EU as soon as possible. He recalled that Moldova submitted an application to join the EU in March 2022, and after 3 months received candidate status - the fastest in the history of the European Union. “Less than 1.5 years after receiving this status, Moldova begins accession negotiations. This is an important decision, since it demonstrates the EU’s readiness to take the next steps towards the European integration of Moldova as quickly as it has been done so far in relations with the Republic of Moldova. This is also an important decision, since it confirms the good pace of implementation of reforms by the Moldovan authorities,” said Siegfried Muresan, speaking during the EU DEBATES CAFE event, organized by the Institute for European Policies and Reforms in Moldova. Regarding the next steps in the process of European integration of Moldova, he noted that our country will actually begin soon negotiations on accession to the EU. “Currently, the European Commission is preparing a negotiating basis - 30 or so areas in which the Moldovan authorities and European institutions will negotiate on equal terms. At the beginning of next year, there will be held the first intergovernmental conference, at which accession negotiations will be officially launched, during which experts from Moldova and the European Union will discuss each of the areas at a technical level in order to adapt European legislation to the realities of Moldova,” emphasized Siegfried Muresan.// 19.12.2023 - InfoMarket.
