The Support Platform will continue to assist Moldova in overcoming the challenges provoked by the war in Ukraine, as well as in the country’s rapprochement with the EU.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of France and Germany Catherine Colonna and Annalena Baerbock, as well as the Secretary of State of the Government of Romania Mircea Abrudean stated this at the final press conference of the “Platform to Support Moldova”. Representatives of the three countries noted the effectiveness of the platform created in March 2022 and reaffirmed commitments to continue support in areas such as strengthening energy infrastructure, forest reform and climate change resilience, combating disinformation, infrastructure development, support for refugees in the cold season and etc. Assistance will be provided both within the framework of bilateral relations and through solidarity funds. It was noted that in the future the format of the platform’s work will remain within the framework of 6 created working groups, while some aspects aimed at administrative reform and increasing the economic sustainability of Moldova will be improved - this will make it possible to cover the specific needs of the country. During the press conference, Catherine Colonna announced that France will provide Moldova with 300 million euros in the coming years for the implementation of projects, and Annalena Baerbock confirmed the assistance planned for 2024 to Moldova in the amount of 95 million euros. Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Nicu Popescu expressed gratitude to his partners for the support that allowed the country to cope with the challenges, and the support that will be provided within the framework of the memorandums concluded today. “In the future, we will focus the Platform’s actions on economic development and modernization of the country. We discussed the direction of assistance in the infrastructure and energy security segments and the acceleration of some projects. Moldova’s agenda as an EU candidate country also remains an important aspect. We are completing reporting for our partners - the European Commission will publish a report in early November,” said the head of the MFAEI. Nicu Popescu thanked all partners for their continued commitment to supporting Moldova’s European path, based on ongoing reform efforts and shared values of democracy, freedom and peace.
