In Moldova, a republican referendum can be held on the day of general parliamentary, presidential and local elections.
This is provided for by a corresponding amendment to the Electoral Code, which parliament adopted in the second reading as part of a general bill aimed at improving the electoral process. This amendment was proposed by Veronica Rosca, a deputy from the Action and Solidarity party. As previously reported, President Maia Sandu announced that she would run for a new term and asked parliament to organize a referendum on Moldova’s accession to the European Union in the fall of 2024, but current legislation did not allow a republican referendum to be held on the day of general parliamentary, presidential and local elections. // 28.12.2023 — InfoMarket
