The European Parliament adopted a resolution in which it asks for Moldova and Ukraine to be granted the status of candidates for EU membership.
529 MEPs out of 588 voted for the adoption of the document. "The citizens of Moldova and Ukraine deserve a European perspective and deserve the status of a candidate for EU membership," wrote a member of the European Parliament, head of the European Parliament's delegation to the Parliamentary Committee on Association European Union - Moldova Siegfried Mureșan. "Ukrainians have been fighting for European values, for democracy, for a European future for 4 months now, with arms in hand. The citizens of Moldova welcomed more than half a million Ukrainian refugees with open arms, providing them with food, shelter and medical assistance. Acting in this way, Moldova and its citizens, undoubtedly proved that they act in a European spirit. That is why, in today's resolution, we, the European Parliament, call on the European Council at this week's meeting to grant the status of a candidate country to Ukraine and Moldova and to give Georgia a European perspective," Siegfried Mureşan emphasized. As a reminder, on June 17, the European Commission recommended granting Moldova and Ukraine the status of candidates for EU membership. The decision on this issue will be made by the heads of state and government of the EU at the summit in Brussels on June 23-24. At the same time, to Moldova and Ukraine were listed conditions, the refusal to fulfill which could lead to the deprivation of their candidate status. //23.06.2022 — InfoMarket.
