Moldova needs to pass 10 stages on its way to join the European Union, 2 of which have already been passed and it is now on the third one – the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu wrote this on his social network page, noting that Moldova had sent an application for accession to the EU to the Council of the European Union on March 3, and on April 11 received an application questionnaire from the European Commission. Now Moldova is in the third stage, which involves the preparation of answers to questions about readiness to join the EU. The questionnaire is scheduled to be completed and submitted to the European Commission within a month. Then, based on these answers, the European Commission will draw up an opinion and send it to the EU Council for a decision. All 27 member states must make a unanimous decision on granting Moldova candidate status. EU accession talks can then begin with the consent of all 27 EU Council members. During the negotiations, the country must bring legislation in line with European standards for all 35 negotiating chapters. After negotiations with all 27 EU governments are completed, the European Commission must give an opinion on the country's readiness to become an EU member. Based on this opinion, member states must unanimously decide to conclude negotiations. Next, the European Parliament must give its approval. Then all member states and the candidate country must sign and ratify the Accession Treaty. After that, the country becomes a member of the EU. // 14.04.2022 - InfoMarket
