The first joint session of the parliaments of Moldova and Romania will take place in Chisinau in June.
This was stated during a joint press conference in the Moldovan capital by the Chairman of the Moldovan Parliament, Igor Grosu, and the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament, Ion-Marcel Ciolacu. “I am glad that the meeting will be held in Chisinau. This is a strong message in support of the efforts of the current government of the country, a message about what we can do together to strengthen cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, energy, investment, healthcare, education or culture,” the President of the Moldovan Parliament said. He thanked his colleague for the support provided by Romania to Moldova for a long time, as well as in the new regional context. “Romania has always been close to the Republic of Moldova, helping us to more easily overcome various crises and implement important projects for our country. Romania is the most important friend of the Republic of Moldova in the process of European integration, and we look forward to your help to achieve concrete progress in our European perspective,” said Igor Grosu. In turn, Ion-Marcel Ciolacu confirmed that Moldova's place is in the European Union. “For the Republic of Moldova, there is no other way of development than joining the EU. Romania does not do favors to Moldova, it is simply obliged to help it in all this way,” said the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania. He also said that after today's discussions, and especially after the joint meeting of the two parliamentary structures, the European and parliamentary dimensions will enter into a different logic. “Moldova is going through a transitional period of unification of its legislation with the legislation of the European Union, which Romania went through a long time ago. It is a pity that we are not working together in the field of legislation in order to be as effective as possible and accelerate the pace for Moldova to become a full member of the EU,” said Marcel Ciolacu. The two speakers also discussed the topic of intensifying economic cooperation between Moldova and Romania. Igor Grosu emphasized that through joint border control, the authorities seek to facilitate the activities of carriers, which now play a key role in supporting supplies at the regional level. // 06.06.2022 — InfoMarket
