
President-elect of Moldova, Maia Sandu, took the constitutional oath on Thursday and officially took office, becoming the first woman head of the Moldovan state and the sixth President of the Republic of Moldova.
Maia Sandu's inauguration ceremony was held at the Palace of the Republic. The event was attended by the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court Domnica Manole, Chairperson of the Parliament Zinaida Grecianii, as well as about 250 invited officials: MPs, politicians, diplomats, representatives of international organizations, Moldovan authorities, etc. In her first official speech after the inauguration, Maia Sandu thanked the citizens for their trust and noted that this is their victory, the victory of the whole country, and she counts on further help from citizens to restore order in Moldova, fight corruption and oligarchs, reduce poverty, introduce reforms, etc. Maia Sandu said that she has big plans regarding Moldova’s development, but she will not be able to realize them without the help of citizens. She promised to be a President who unites all citizens and to promote people on the basis of merit, a President who speaks the truth, a President of European integration, who will lead the country out of isolation. Maia Sandu said she would promote a foreign policy that builds bridges, not walls. She recalled that in these elections people voted mainly against corruption, for bringing order to the country and a chance for prosperity and a good life at home. During her speech, the new President said several phrases in Russian, Ukrainian, Gagauz, Bulgarian and other languages. After the completion of the official inauguration at the Palace of the Republic, Maia Sandu walked to the monument to Stefan cel Mare, where she laid flowers, and then she went to the presidential administration building, where the former head of state Igor Dodon gave Maia Sandu a bouquet of white and yellow roses and handed over to her the symbols of presidential power, including the presidential flag. // 24.12.2020 - InfoMarket.
