The newly elected President of Moldova Maia Sandu is in favor of an early dissolution of the parliament and early parliamentary elections.
She stated this during a press conference on Monday, noting that in the current parliament she does not see an opportunity to create a majority that will support the new government to implement justice reform, fight corruption and take other important measures expected by citizens. Maia Sandu said that the conditions under which parliament can be dissolved and early elections are held are described in the Constitution and the newly elected President intends to follow this path. “We will continue to discuss with the parties in parliament the holding of early elections, which are absolutely necessary, the citizens want them, and the deputies have no arguments to delay the dissolution of parliament,” said Maia Sandu. She stressed that a new majority is created in parliament, and the president appoints a candidate for the post of prime minister. According to Maia Sandu, she is ready to appoint only an honest person to the post of head of government, a professional who has no problems with incorruptibility. The newly elected president said she is negotiating with development partners to provide additional assistance to Moldova in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis, including the provision of medicines, tests, medical equipment for hospitals, urging the government to test more citizens and ensure self-isolation of sick people for preventing the spread of coronavirus. Maia Sandu stressed that the country governance remains in the hands of the current government, but it must do better than it has done so far. She highly appreciated the assistance that Moldova receives from Romania and the EU in general, not only in the current crisis situation, but also earlier, speaking out for Romania and the EU countries as a whole to increase assistance for our citizens. Answering a question about her vision of Moldova's foreign policy as the new president, Maia Sandu noted that our country should have good relations with all states, and the main principle of foreign policy, which it will follow, is to act in the national interests of Moldova. The new President of Moldova spoke in favor of the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of the Transnistrian region, as well as for the transformation of the current peacekeeping mission on the Dniester into a civilian mission under the auspices of the OSCE. Maia Sandu noted that, in general, Moldova has a large agenda in relations with Russia - conditions for migrants in Russia, expansion of exports, pension provision for migrants, etc. “I am ready to meet and talk with anyone who can help,” the president-elect said. She also assured that while planning to build good relations with Russia, Moldova will continue to support the territorial integrity of neighboring Ukraine. Talking about internal problems in the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu noted the intention to purge the judicial system and the entire justice system, reform the justice system, intensify the fight against corruption, etc. She talked about plans to meet with Prosecutor General Alexandru Stoianoglo to hear his explanations as to why there is so little progress in corruption cases, and how the “billion dollar theft” case is being investigated. The newly elected president promised to reduce the expenses of the presidential administration, reform the Supreme Security Council, help create a more favorable business environment for business, provide access to cheap money, raise the minimum pension to 2 thousand lei, and strengthen assistance to the elderly and people with disabilities, including , thanks to the creation of the so-called "Silver Fund", which will be designed to provide services for the care of the needy and the lonely, their medical care at home, providing hot meals, etc. Maia Sandu said that she had not yet seen the Socialist Party of RM -proposed draft law on granting official status to the Russian language, but believes that it was proposed by the socialists in order to divide society and bring people to the barricades after residents united in order to fight corruption and restore order in the country. Maia Sandu urged citizens not to succumb to the provocations of any party and to remember that the main goal is to build a good country for everyone, and for this it is necessary to deprive all corrupt people of power. “As we expelled Igor Dodon, so we must expel corrupt officials from parliament,” said Maia Sandu. She announced that the first visits she will make as president will be to Kiev and Bucharest. There is no exact date for these visits yet, but most likely her first visit will be made in January to Kiev, and, most likely, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis will visit Moldova in the first weeks after the inauguration of the new head of the Moldovan state.// 30.11.2020 — InfoMarket.
