According to the National Bank, Moldova's insurance market was strongly oriented, as before, towards general insurance activity, which accounted for 96.34% of the total premiums written, while life insurance accounted for 3.66% of the total premiums written. At the end of 2023, there were 1.28 million insurance policies in force, up 4.5% from the end of the previous year. Almost 98% of the policies relate to general insurance and just over 2% to life insurance. Compulsory motor third party liability insurance (including MTPL, Green Card, TIR and CMR book) as well as insurance of land vehicles other than railroads (CASCO) accounted for more than 74% of the insurance market. The average premium for RCA domestic insurance in 2023 amounted to 1.378 lei - 37.1% more than in 2022.
