Economic agents from July 1, 2026 will be obliged to accept non-cash payments in units with sales revenues exceeding 500 thousand lei per year

This is stipulated by the relevant amendments, which Moldovan Parliament passed while approving in the second reading the 7th package on debureaucratization of the business environment activity in order to reduce the costs of economic agents. The amendment was initiated by MP Victor Spinu, who proposed to supplement the legislation with provisions on the obligation of entrepreneurs to install terminals for cashless payment. This obligation should be fulfilled by July 1 of the next year, within the subdivisions, whose sales revenue exceeds 500 thousand lei per year. At the same time, a more neutral wording was eventually proposed regarding the technologies used for cashless payments, given the emergence of new low-cost technologies on the market. For example, MIA instant payments allow the consumer to simply scan a QR code generated directly on the merchant's device in the MIA system and make payments via a link. At the same time, the fee applicable to most categories of businesses when paying via MIA is only 0.8%. The proposed amendment is intended to facilitate the acceptance of cashless payments by economic agents, regardless of the technology used, thereby promoting solutions for efficient and affordable payment systems for both customers and consumers. This change follows the introduction of new innovative solutions, such as the MIA instant payment system, which reduces the costs associated with accepting payments, contributing to the development of a more inclusive digital economy in Moldova. // 27.02.2025 - InfoMarket.
