The full capacity of Arena Chisinau may be reached by 2028-2029

At the meeting of the Economic Press Club on Thursday, the administrator of Arena Nationala Sergiu Stanciu noted that the complex is currently 65% loaded, and it will take 3-4 years to reach full capacity, depending on the economic situation in the country and the region. He emphasized that the Arena Chisinau project was originally conceived as a purely sports complex, promoting the state's policy of supporting healthy lifestyles and the development of sports, but practice shows that such facilities rarely pay off. Therefore, a strategic decision was made to expand the arena format to a multifunctional complex. This will allow to achieve operational sustainability faster and cover current expenses through a variety of activities, not only sporting events. The Arena Chisinau complex has expanded the scope of its services, offering nationally significant events, concerts, exhibitions, fairs, congresses, and presentations. At the same time, the main emphasis is placed on the support of sports events. According to the complex administrator, in 2024 the complex hosted 260 events, of which 54% were sporting events. In 2025, the proportion will exceed 60% as demand for the arena among sports federations continues to grow. There remains 59 hectares of undeveloped land on the complex. The initial project envisioned the construction of a hotel, restaurants and other infrastructure, but this issue has not been resolved yet. At the same time, the Moldovan Football Federation assessed this site as the best place for the construction of the stadium, but the final decision remains with the government. At the same time, until the issue of capital investments is resolved, it is planned to temporarily develop this territory in the warm season, attracting more visitors and increasing the revenue of the enterprise. For example, it is planned to organize ATV-motocross (quad biking) in spring, and the options of festivals, camping, etc. are being considered. Sergiu Stanciu noted that the Arena Chisinau big hall is the largest in the country and can accommodate 5050 people. The complex rents it as a whole or in parts - from 3500 euros for a quarter of the hall to 6500 euros for the whole hall, not including additional costs. While answering the InfoMarket agency's question about the kinds of sports events the complex can host, Sergei Stanchu said that there are dozens of them, which can be held indoors and on the water. “We are not inventing new sports, but we are ready to develop available directions, and the main thing is to ensure the financial stability of the Rrena in the shortest possible time,” emphasized Sergiu Stanciu. // 21.02.2025 - InfoMarket
