In Moldova, the national regulatory framework in the field of animal husbandry will be harmonized with the legislation of the European Union
This is envisaged, in particular, by the draft Law on the classification of carcasses of cattle, pigs and sheep and the presentation of market prices for carcasses and live animals, approved by the Parliament in the first reading. This legislative initiative was developed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and provides for the harmonization of national legislation with the legislation of the European Union. The document establishes the legal and economic foundations of the National System of Classification of Carcasses of Cattle, Pigs and Sheep, as well as the relationship between government agencies and operators engaged in the breeding and slaughter of animals. The provisions of this law do not apply to carcasses of animals obtained in farms for personal consumption. The draft law regulates the rules for the classification and labeling of carcasses of cattle, pigs and sheep; the activities of classifiers; on-site inspections; registration and reporting on market prices for animal carcasses; reporting on market prices for live animals, etc. The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) will be the body that will implement the National Cattle, Pig and Sheep Carcass Classification System and issue classification permits. Carcass classification will be mandatory for ANSA-authorized slaughterhouses and will be carried out by automated and semi-automated methods. However, carcass classification requirements will not be mandatory for slaughterhouses that slaughter less than 150 cattle (at least 8 months old) and less than 500 pigs per week, on average, per year. //13.12.2024 — InfoMarket.
