Four employees of Leuseni Customs were detained for 72 hours on suspicion of corruption
According to the National Anti-Corruption Center, 8 searches were conducted this morning at the customs post in Leuseni, as well as in the houses and cars of some customs officers within the framework of a criminal case initiated on the fact of corruption. The suspects extorted and received money from carriers of parcels and passengers to/from EU countries in order to simplify or circumvent customs procedures. They received illegal rewards for simplifying customs procedures or bypassing them altogether, e.g. for not scrutinizing the goods being transported and for exempting them from import duties. As a result of the searches, the money was seized, its origin is yet to be established, as well as data carriers and other possible evidence of their guilt. // 18.07.2024 - InfoMarket.
