The Romanian government extended the agreement with Moldova on joint control at the Leuseni-Albita border crossing point for another 6 months - until October 15.

According to the Romanian Cabinet of Ministers, the purpose of coordinated control at the Leuseni-Albita border crossing point is to streamline the flow of people, vehicles and goods crossing the state border through the relevant border crossing point. The initial period of application of this agreement was from April 15 to October 15, 2023, with a subsequent extension of 6 months – until April 15, 2024. According to the results of inspections conducted at this border crossing point, during the implementation of the agreement it was found that the traffic has improved in terms of reduction of the average waiting time for the flow of people, which has not yet happened with the flow of goods vehicles. Therefore, it is necessary to extend this agreement for another 6 months in order to simplify, streamline and coordinate the control of border traffic. In addition, after a joint analysis, the reorganization, if necessary, of the flow of vehicles entering Romania will be considered in the context of the implementation of projects aimed at procuring special control equipment at border crossings, carried out by the relevant authorities, as well as the subsequent updating/modification/amendment of the Regulation on the functioning of the Albita-Leuseni border crossing point at the entrance to Romania. // 12.04.2024 – InfoMarket
