The sale price of the 5.2-hectare land plot of the former Republican Stadium in Chisinau for the construction of a new building of the US embassy may amount to 15 million euros.

The sale price of the 5.2-hectare land plot of the former Republican Stadium in Chisinau for the construction of a new building of the US embassy may amount to 15 million euros.

Government announced this, noting that these are preliminary data, while the final data will be made public after the negotiations on the sale and purchase of this land plot are finalized. The Cabinet of Ministers said that a new agreement has been worked out, under which the land on Tighina Street in Chiainau will be sold for the construction of a new building of the US Embassy in Moldova. The 5.2-hectare land will be sold to the US Embassy under the agreement. The government initiated the process of negotiating a document that will open a process by which this land downtown Chisinau, abandoned for almost 17 years, will be exploited and this entire sector of Chisinau will be revived. The sale price is expected to amount to about 15 million euros, but all the final data will be made public after the negotiating group completes all the processes. As the government noted, the money from the sale of this land will be used for a number of important projects: the creation of the Universul Center for Contemporary Art and Culture, renovation of sports schools across the country; conducting a feasibility study and designing the future National Stadium. The Cabinet emphasized that the sale will be made at a fair price and accompanied by a number of mandatory conditions: preservation of the gate as an architectural value, creation of a green zone on this land and compliance with certain height restrictions. By April 10, the draft agreement should be approved by the relevant ministries and the Parliamentary Commission on Foreign Policy and European Integration. Subsequently, negotiations will start, during which the exact text of the new agreement will be determined, including the final sum of the deal, the height of the buildings and the money that the US side will provide to buy the buildings from the private owners. The government recalled that the US embassy in Moldova had been looking for land for a new building for more than 20 years. The first discussion of this topic took place in 2008, soon after the demolition of the former Republican Stadium in 2007. The first official request of the US Embassy to obtain this land was made in 2015 and since then the representatives of the diplomatic mission have been negotiating with the Moldovan authorities. The US.Embassy in Moldova will invest at least $250 million in this project, which will add value to Chisinau's urban center. For more than 30 years, the USA has provided over $2.5 billion in free assistance to the Moldovan citizens. Moldova has a strategic, stable and strong partnership with the US. The Cabinet of Ministers specified that it is not about the sale of the stadium, given that it was demolished in 2007. The matter is about selling the abandoned field. For 17 years this territory was unsanitary, dirty, turned into a shelter for stray dogs and homeless children. As InfoMarket reported earlier, the Moldovan Parliament ratified earlier the Intergovernmental Agreement on the land plot for the construction of a new building of the US Embassy in Chisinau, which entitles the American side to purchase a plot for the construction of a new building of the US Embassy on the territory of the former Republican Stadium. Later, the Director-General of the Public Property Agency, Eugen Cozonac, and the US ambassador to Moldova, Kent Logsdon, signed a memorandum of agreement on the sale of the plot of the former Republican Stadium in Chisinau, on which a new US embassy and a new public park will be built. Kent Logsdon said that the construction of the new building of the US Embassy in Moldova on the territory of the former Republican Stadium in Chisinau is planned to start by the end of 2024, its construction will take up to 5 years, and investments in the project will amount to $250 million // 29.03.2024 – InfoMarket
