Modernization and reconstruction of the Sculeni customs completed.

The Customs Service officially opened the customs post in Sculeni, modernized within the project "Repair and modernization of the border customs posts on the border between Romania and Moldova: Albita-Leuseni, Sculeni-Sculeni and Giurgiulesti-Galati", financed by the European Union and co-financed by the Moldovan and Romanian governments. Director of the Customs Service, Igor Talmazan, said during the modernization project, the biggest investments were made in this customs post, where the most complicated works were carried out, which implied its expansion and complete reconstruction. In particular, 6 new lanes for customs inspection were built at this post, bringing their total number to 14 lanes (7 for entry and 7 for exit). Pavilions and sheds were also built, access roads were repaired, scanning platforms and protective partitions for the mobile scanner were constructed, a thunderbolt system, wastewater and storm water treatment stations, and a liquefied gas supply system were built. The administrative building was renovated, and exterior lighting, marking and signaling systems were upgraded. At the same time, the area of the customs post was expanded from 2.3 to 4.8 hectares. This will allow increasing its throughput capacity and providing the infrastructure corresponding to modern conditions. The Sculeni customs post was equipped with the equipment necessary for the optimal work of customs officers, as well as modern customs equipment, including a stationary X-rąy scanning system for the inspection of goods and vehicles. Thanks to the financial assistance of the European Union through the International Organization for Migration (IOM), a video surveillance system was introduced and LED information screens were installed to display information on the new customs legislation and border crossing rules. The total cost of the works carried out at the customs post in Sculeni amounted to 135.3 million lei (almost 7 million euros). The modernization of the customs post will increase the efficiency and speed of customs clearance, speed up the international flow of passengers and cargoes, and reduce the number of customs violations. // 07.03.2024 - InfoMarket
