In Moldova, identity cards are planned to be renamed into identification cards: they will be updated every 10 years from the age of 14 to 70 years of the owner.
The relevant amendments to the Law on Identity Documents of the National Passport System were initiated by the State Chancellery. The project provides for a change in the names of identity documents, including the replacement of the name "identity card" with "identity card". In this case, the wording "identity card" will be applied to documents issued to apartides, refugees, recipients of temporary protection. It is envisaged that the electronic database of the state according to the ID-card of a citizen of Moldova will store all the information available on the paper version of the document, as well as some biometric data: face image and fingerprints. All data in the ID-card will be filled in Romanian, but the name fields will be duplicated in English. It also provides for a change in the validity of internal identity documents. Thus, the ID-card of children under the age of 7 will be updated every 4 years, those of 7-14 years old - every 7 years. At the age of 14-70 years, the validity of the ID-card will be 10 years, and unlimited validity will be after the owner reaches the age of 70. These and other changes in the Law are proposed to come into force from January 1, 2025. Consultations on the project are held until September 15: https://goo.su/7np229U. // 05.09.2023 — InfoMarket.
