The inauguration of the new centers was timed to coincide with the day of the city of Ungheni, and the opening ceremony of the new facilities was attended by the Prime Minister of Moldova Dorin Recean, the head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Janis Mazheiks, the UNDP representative in Moldova Andrea Cuzyova, other officials and guests. According to the press service of the government, the tourist information center with an area of 90 sq. m was built in Ungheni with financial support from the EU within the framework of the project "Sustainable Actions for Economic Growth through Tourism". It is designed to popularize tourist attractions not only of the city, but of the entire Ungheni region. The head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, Janis Mazheiks, noted that 1 out of 7 EU grants was used for the implementation of the project. He stressed that the tourism industry has great potential - it is a catalyst for economic development and job creation. Also in Ungheni, on the occasion of the city holiday, the repair of A. Boico Street was completed - the overhaul of the street was carried out for the first time in 60 years as part of the EU4Moldova: Key Regions program and the Cross-border development of environmentally friendly transport project. The repair costs amounted to 528 thousand euros, of which 200 thousand euros were an EU grant, the rest of the funds were allocated from the budget of the municipality's mayor's office. A 700 m long section of the road connects the city center with the Youth Quarter, as well as with the free economic zone. In addition, a “single window” of information and services was opened in the Ungheni Mayor's office, which covers all the services of the city hall. The EU provided 100,000 euros for the implementation of this project. During the visit to Ungheni, the head of government met with the administration and residents of the Ungheni FEZ. The meeting discussed issues of tax order, customs, logistics, etc., as well as solutions that will be implemented with the support of central and local authorities. At the same time, the problems that companies face at the local level were analyzed - they are related to transport infrastructure and labor shortages, the need to strengthen domestic tourism and amend legislation.
