The regional security environment will be influenced by the war in Ukraine, including in the post-war phase.
This opinion was expressed by the head of the Border Police of Moldova, Rosian Vasiloi, at a meeting of the department's leadership with the attaché for customs and border security of the Swiss Embassy in Bulgaria, Nicolas Meldem. At the same time, Rosian Vasiloi stressed that Moldova is aware of this aspect, which is why the Interior Ministry takes measures to prevent the deterioration of the situation in the country as a result of the risks generated by the war. Referring to the objectives of the institutional development of the border police, Vasiloi said that they are conditioned by the European integration process, which is taking place in the context of obtaining the status of a candidate country, and are reflected in the relevant programme documents, which are aimed both at harmonizing the legal framework with the EU norms, as well as at developing the infrastructure and technical equipment of the border guard units. For its part, the Swiss side said that it is closely following the developments in the region and in Moldova, noting the progress made on many issues. The sides also praised the excellent cooperation between the border police and the European agency FRONTEX, whose employees are actively involved in service missions on the Moldovan borders. The sides praised the cooperation between the agencies and reiterated their openness, continuing the efficient exchange of information, both in the fight against cross-border crime and in the examination of documents. //25.08.2023 - InfoMarket.
