Citizens of 27 EU countries, as well as other countries, will receive simplified access to the labor market of Moldova.

Citizens of 27 EU countries, as well as other countries, will receive simplified access to the labor market of Moldova.

The Ministry of Economy has submitted for public consultations a draft amendment to the Law on the Treatment of Aliens, which will simplify the import of labor from 27 EU countries, as well as other states. In particular, foreigners from 27 EU countries will be able to perform work on the territory of Moldova on the basis of a visa, the right to stay or the right to temporary residence, as appropriate, without first obtaining the right to temporary residence for the purpose of employment and a temporary residence permit for the purpose of employment. Also, this right, by decision of the government, can be granted to citizens of other states that are not included in the category of exceptions. Today, the staff of diplomatic missions and consular offices, international organizations accredited in Moldova, and members of their families enjoy concessions; journalists accredited in Moldova; persons who are on a business trip, etc. It is also proposed to increase the limit of working hours for foreign students - up to the limit established in the labor legislation of 40 hours per week, but not more than 1565 hours per year. The bill will make it possible to liberalize the access of foreigners to the national labor market, where there is a shortage of professional personnel. Such experience is successfully applied, for example, in Albania. Also, according to the experience of the EU, the employment opportunities for students will expand: instead of 10 hours a week, they will be able to work 3-4 times more. In the explanatory note to the project, the Ministry of Economy refers to a survey of employers who predict a shortage of specialists in the field of information technology and communications, workers in the light industry and, in particular, the clothing industry; shortage of vehicle drivers, cooks, waiters, confectioners in the HoReCa sector, etc. Consultations on the project are held until May 30: https://particip.gov.md/ro/document/stages/proiect-hg-privind-aprobarea-proiectului-de-lege-pentru-modificarea-articolului-431-din-legea-nr-2002010-privind-regimul-strainilor-in-republica-moldova/10543. // 29.05.2023 — InfoMarket
