The new head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office of Moldova, Veronica Drăgalin, started her work today.

The new head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office of Moldova, Veronica Drăgalin, started her work today.

The President of Moldova Maia Sandu, Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco, Acting Prosecutor General Dumitru Robu, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Prosecutors Angela Motuzoc introduced her to the team, wishing them success in their future work. The head of the Ministry of Justice stressed that the process of selecting the chief prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office was complex and was carried out according to new rules agreed with development partners. “I really appreciate the fact that Ms Dragalin left a successful career in the US and decided to help the development of Moldova and take part in the fight against corruption. If we effectively fight corruption, then conditions for sustainable development will be created,” said Sergiu Litvinenco, expressing confidence that the experience as a federal prosecutor in the United States will help Veronica Dragalin fight corruption and reform the institution by improving and streamlining processes. “In other words, a serious structural reform, which over time will make the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office a strong and stable institution, regardless of political or state changes in the country. And it is obvious that in addition to the actual reform of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, it is necessary to obtain concrete results in the field of combating corruption, the results that society and citizens expect. Lately we see that there is some progress. But everything must be expedited and done with great care. Speed should not prevail over quality,” Sergiu Litvinenco noted. In her address to the team, Chief Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Veronica Dragalin mentioned that she hopes to bring a new perspective and energy, but relies on the experience and knowledge of her colleagues. “The priorities I want to apply in this institution are: First of all, action - we are the ones who can bring thieves to justice. Of course, there will be obstacles, but together we will manage and overcome them. Second, equality—we must apply the law equally regardless of political affiliation, status, or relationships. And thirdly, transparency - we need to communicate with the public so that people can trust us. I promise you that I will always have a positive attitude, and I assure you that I am and will remain an optimistic, honest and decent person. My goal is to earn your trust and respect as colleagues, and I hope that together we can earn the trust and respect of society in our institution,” she concluded. Veronica Dragalin was declared the winner of the competition for the position of Chief Prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office by the decision of the Supreme Council of Prosecutors dated June 7, 2022. // 01.08.2022 — InfoMarket
