
Moldova and Romania signed an updated Roadmap on priority areas of cooperation between the two countries.
The document was signed in Bucharest by the heads of the foreign ministries of Moldova and Romania, Nicu Popescu and Bogdan Aurescu, in the presence of the presidents of the two countries, Maia Sandu and Klaus Ioahannis. Thus, they updated the Roadmap on priority areas of cooperation between the two countries, which was signed in Chisinau on October 9, 2019 by the foreign ministers of the two countries. After numerous events that have taken place over the past 2 years, but especially after the election of Maia Sandu as the new president of Moldova a year ago and after the elections on July 11 this year, which were won by pro-European and pro-democratic political forces, it became necessary to update this document. The updated Roadmap will form the basis for future concrete bilateral cooperation between Moldova and Romania. The goal of the Roadmap is to support a strong and irreversible connection of Moldova to the European Union with the assistance of Romania in a number of areas: support for Moldova's European integration and the process of democratic reforms; economic and social development of Moldova for the benefit of all its citizens, based on their expectations of a prosperous life in a democratic state, with modern social institutions and independent justice; consolidation of the linguistic, historical and cultural community between Romania and Moldova. The document includes priority projects and actions for concrete cooperation for both sides in the following areas: energy interconnection; gratuitous aid for Moldova; reimbursable financial assistance; transport infrastructure; communications and information society; regional and territorial cooperation; protection of the environment, waters and forests; education and research; culture; healthcare; Work; cooperation in the field of internal affairs; cooperation in the field of public finance and European financing; Agriculture; justice; trade and investment cooperation; official development assistance; cooperation through the ministries of foreign affairs. In particular, the Roadmap provides for the conclusion of a new Intergovernmental Agreement on the implementation of a program of technical and financial assistance based on a grant provided by Romania to Moldova, which will replace a similar Agreement signed in 2010 and expired on March 28, 2021.
