Moldova stands for the revision by Russia of import duties applied to a number of Moldovan goods, as well as for the abolition of existing restrictions on the admission of Moldovan exporters and Moldovan products to the Russian market.
This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Nicu Popescu at a joint press conference in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. He noted that the development of relations with Russia is one of the priority directions of the foreign policy of the Moldovan government, the Russian Federation is the country's traditional partner, and during the talks, the heads of the foreign ministries confirmed their mutual disposition for an active and pragmatic dialogue on the entire agenda, taking into account the interests of each of the parties. “We stressed the need to fully restore and further intensify bilateral trade and economic ties, noted that there is a mutually beneficial untapped potential. In the context of the importance of efforts to increase mutual trade exchanges, the Moldovan side reiterated its position on the revision by the Russian authorities of import duties applied to a number of Moldovan goods, as well as the abolition of existing restrictions on the admission of Moldovan exporters and Moldovan products to the Russian market. It is very important for us to return to the free trade regime within the CIS, which is the main base of our trade and economic relations, ”Nicu Popescu said. According to him, given that it is mainly about the traditional articles of Moldovan exports to the Russian Federation, such restrictive measures do not correspond to the interests of either Moldova or Russia. The head of the MFAEI also said that during the meeting the parties noted the importance of the effective work of the Moldovan-Russian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, co-chaired by Nicu Popescu. He noted that during the meeting with the chairman of the Russian part of the commission - Minister of Agriculture of Russia Dmitry Patrushev, he discussed in detail the trade and economic issues of Moldovan-Russian cooperation and the preparation of the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission in the near future. “We also discussed with Sergey Lavrov the cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector, especially in the context of the recent signing of a protocol and contract for gas supplies to Moldova. This contract is an example of a possible finding of solutions to complex issues in a pragmatic and calm manner, "said the head of the MFAEI. // 17.11.2021 - InfoMarket
