One of the priorities of the future agenda of the EU's relations with Moldova is the reform of justice and the establishment of the rule of law, and the exam for the judicial system will be the examination of cases related to bank theft and the return of stolen funds to the country - the European Union.
This opinion was expressed by a high-ranking representative of the European External Action Service, Deputy Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia, Head of the Department for Relations with Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia and the OSCE Luc Devigne, speaking at the annual European Integration Forum organized by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and politicians under the slogan "Towards the European future of the Republic of Moldova". Luc Devigne noted that the judicial system, the prosecutor's office must act in line with the law, which is important for the economic development of the country, and decisive steps are needed on the part of the current authorities to implement the announced reforms in justice in practice. He stressed that cases related to the investigation of bank fraud will be an exam for the judicial system, noting the importance of the perpetrators being punished and the stolen funds returned to Moldova. “Moldova is important for the EU in the perspective of the implementation of the Association Agreement. We want to see progress, prosperity, good governance and a functional market economy in Moldova. Our policy is not to dictate to Moldova how and with whom to build relations. What we want to see is citizens who have hope for a better future. We have an obligation to consolidate the association with the Republic of Moldova through the full implementation of the Agreement. It is about fighting corruption, improving the work of the judicial system. The fight against poverty is also a priority. All these tasks fully coincide with the provisions of the Association Agreement, ”said Luc Devigne. // 09.11.2021 — InfoMarket
