Moldova and Ukraine discussed the issue of synchronizing their energy systems with the European continental network ENTSO-E and the security of gas supplies.
This was discussed during a meeting held in Kiev by Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Andrei Spinu and Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Hałuszczenko. According to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, the parties discussed the process of preparing for the synchronization of the energy systems of Moldova and Ukraine with the European continental network ENTSO-E. “Synchronization is not only a technical process, but also a geopolitical issue, since it implies a complete disconnection from the energy systems of Russia and Belarus. Ukraine has experience in the electricity market, and we are ready to share this experience, because integration with Europe also presupposes the introduction of new transparent market rules that meet the requirements of European legislation, ”said German Hałuszczenko. The agenda of the meeting also included the issue of ensuring the security of gas supplies. The meeting participants also discussed the concept of a Regional Energy Security Partnership (RESP), which Ukraine proposed to the European states. “We are actively discussing our proposal with the European Union and see interest in it. Ukraine can really ensure the energy security of the region. This is not only about Ukraine and Moldova, but about the entire European region, which consumes about 90 billion cubic meters of gas. We have the largest storage facilities in Europe. They can become a hub for ensuring the physical availability of resources and enhancing energy security, ”emphasized German Hałuszczenko. Andrei Spinu assured the participants of the meeting about Moldova's support for this concept and readiness to cooperate with Ukraine in communicating with the European Commission on its implementation. He also expressed gratitude to Ukraine for emergency assistance in the supply of gas and electricity in October this year. // 18.11.2021 — InfoMarket
