The Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft Law on prevention of unjustified geo-blocking to support Moldovan enterprises
According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, the initiative is aimed at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in Moldova and boosting trade with the European Union. The Ministry said that geo-blocking is a practice in which customers from other countries are restricted from accessing certain online stores based on their citizenship or place of residence. The government-approved draft Law on Prevention of Unjustified Geo-blocking will remove these barriers so that no matter where a consumer is located, he or she can access the goods and services they are interested in. Merchants will no longer be able to restrict access based on IP address or GPS coordinates, which is a big step toward freer, fairer, and more equal trade. The law provides for an adaptation period of 24 months from the date of publication to give authorities and the private sector enough time to comply with the new rules. The law will also cease to apply once the EU accession treaty enters into force. According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, the adoption of this draft law is an important step in bringing our country in line with European standards in this field and in preparing our country for integration into the single European market. // 15.01.2025 - InfoMarket
