At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers said that it would maintain an equidistant position in the dispute between the parties who signed the investment agreement on the Giurgiulesti port. This is said in a government statement issued after some media published information regarding the privatization / alienation of the Giurgiulesti port. The Cabinet made a number of clarifications and recalled that the legislative framework governing the economic activity within the port is set out the Investment Agreement "On the Giurgiulesti International Free Port", the Law on International Free Port Giurgiulesti and the 2005 government decree on the activities of the Giurgiulesti Port. The investment agreement was signed on December 24, 2004 between the government of Moldova and the investors: AZPETROL (currently Bemol Retail), AZERTRANS (currently Danube Logistics), and AZPETROL REFINERY (currently Bemol Refinery). In accordance with the Law on International Free Port Giurgiulesti, a Free Economic Zone was created on the territory of the port for a period of 25 years to accelerate the economic development of the southern region of Moldova, ensure energy security and transport security of the country, as well as the development of international trade. The port is part of the customs territory of Moldova, separated from an economic point of view, where the legislation of Moldova is applied. Access to the port area is regulated by a decree approved by the government. The function of operational management of the Giurgiulesti port activity was entrusted to Danube Logistics, a legal entity registered in Moldova.
