The Ministry of Agriculture has developed a draft Strategic Program for the Development of the Aquaculture Sector for 2026-2030 and discussed it with fish farmers

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the agency held an industry advisory meeting on aquaculture and the processing of aquaculture products. During the discussions, a draft Strategic Program for the Development of the Aquaculture Sector for 2026-2030 was presented. The document sets out priority areas for the development of a competitive and sustainable fisheries sector that will contribute to ensuring the country's food security. The program includes mechanisms aimed at modernizing fish farms, optimizing interaction between government agencies and producers, and introducing practices that comply with environmental standards. The program defines the directions for the use of water basins with the aim of expanding the areas used for aquaculture: by the end of 2027, to increase production capacity by expanding the total area allocated to the sector by 35%, and by 2028, to restore at least 25% of water bodies that are in poor condition. At the same time, the program defines measures aimed at consolidating the genetic pool of fish resources, including the restoration of two fish hatcheries and the use of certified genetic material in at least 30% of fish farms by 2028. Another important element of the document is the development of the processing industry, including the introduction of modern food quality and safety management systems. By the end of 2028, the number of authorized and modernized enterprises is expected to increase by 25%, which will result in an increase in the value of local products on the domestic market by at least 30%. In parallel with this, the program provides for the creation of an organized structure for the fish products market by recognizing at least two producer organizations and one inter-industry organization by 2027. State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Iurie Scripnic emphasized the role of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food as a policy driver and at the same time stressed the need for public-private partnerships for the sustainable development of the aquaculture sector. Consultations with the National Association of Fish Farmers, farmers, and relevant institutions aim to adapt the Strategic Program to the real needs of the sector and ensure the implementation of effective measures for the development of the sector. // 24.10.2025 — InfoMarket.
