The 46th World Congress of Vine and Wine will be held in Moldova for the first time on June 16
More than 500 scientists, winemakers, oenologists, producers, and politicians from 51 member countries of the International Organization of Vine and Wine will take part in the event.
In particular, this prestigious international event dedicated to wine will be attended in Chisinau by the Director General of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) John Barker, OIV President Yvette van der Merwe, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga, and others. The Congress will also be attended by specialists from Moldova, who will present the latest research and applied research results in the field of viticulture and winemaking, thereby promoting local scientific experience at the international level. "The presentations by our scientists are relevant to the theme of the Congress and reflect the most pressing issues in viticulture, oenology, economics, and nutrition. We will have valuable presentations on climate-resistant varieties, precision viticulture, building sustainable value chains in the wine industry, digitalization and automation of oenological processes, and the legal framework for the production and promotion of alcoholic beverages. Other interesting topics will include the link between responsible wine consumption and health, as well as the use of wine by-products in functional products with potential health benefits. The discussions will also explore the potential of local varieties such as Rara Neagra and Feteasca Neagra in the context of current industry trends, such as precision viticulture, the use of climate data for disease prevention in grapevines, and the integration of artificial intelligence into the winemaking process," said Gherghe Arpentin, President of the OIV Scientific Committee, university professor, and Doctor of Technical Sciences. The Congress will be dedicated to the theme “Shaping the Future of Vine and Wine: Embracing Resilience, Elevating Value, Fostering Innovation.” The event will also feature four discussion panels covering more than 300 topics of global importance to the industry. Of these, 29 will be presented by Moldovan researchers in the field of viticulture and related industries. The discussion sessions will take place on June 16, 17, and 18 at the Palace of the Republic in Chisinau and maib park. In addition, a number of technical visits to Moldova's most famous wineries and a gala dinner are planned. Also, on the occasion of the event, the Stefan cel Mare Public Park in Chisinau will be decorated with photo zones and thematic art compositions, and an exhibition of the most representative grape varieties of our country will be presented on the Alley of Classics. At the same time, on the first day of the congress, 15 wine-producing enterprises from Moldova will have the opportunity to present their products, which have won numerous awards at international competitions, to international experts. The event is organized by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and the National Office of Vine and Wine(ONVV). Moldova has been a member of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine since April 3, 2001, becoming the first CIS country to join the OIV. In 2024, the International Organisation of Vine and Wine celebrated its 100th anniversary. Earlier, the president of the International Organization of Vine and Wine, Yvette van der Merwe, noted that Moldova has established itself as a beacon in the global wine community thanks to its centuries-old tradition of winemaking and commitment to innovation. "At our congress, we will discuss the future of the industry and explore how scientific achievements and sustainable practices can shape the path to the future. This Congress, which will take place in a country where vineyards are an integral part of the culture, will serve as a platform for dialogue and cooperation to ensure that the wine industry continues to thrive in the future," said Yvette van der Merwe. // 13.06.2025 – InfoMarket.
