Moldovan agrarians who have invested in purchase of no-till equipment and irrigation systems have received grants totaling $285 thousand.
The Ministry of Agriculture informed about this, noting that the grants compensate up to 30% of the total investments in technologies and methods, which ensure soil protection and amounted up to $10 thousand per beneficiary. Thus, 34 farmers were selected to receive grant funding as part of the competition. The Grants Program for Sustainable Land Management is implemented by the Moldova Agricultural Competitiveness Project (MAC-P) under a grant agreement signed between Moldova and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, based on which our country has received $3 million 105 thousand of new grant money from the Global Environment Facility. As InfoMarket Agency has earlier reported, the above-mentioned grant agreement is the fourth additional financing of the Moldova Agricultural Competitiveness Project aimed at expanding activities on promotion of sustainable land management practices, promotion of knowledge and implementation of these practices, as well as soil protection and conservation measures. The agreement provides, among other things, grants to agricultural producers who invest in soil-saving agricultural and environmental practices and technologies (no-till/mini-till, agri-forestry, irrigation systems, etc.). At the same time, according to the provisions of the agreement, 2000 hectares of protective forest belts will be restored in the basin of the Raut River in the northern region of the country, where soil degradation has reached threatening proportions. // 25.01.2023 - InfoMarket.
