
The EU has allocated to Moldova 120 million euros to help restructure the entire value chain of the country's horticultural sector.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Viorel Gherciu stated this while presenting successful projects, implemented in our country with the support of the European Union through the European Investment Bank, and introducing new opportunities and funding programs from the EU to the interested parties in the framework of the European Days in Soroca. The event was also attended by Alberto Carley, head of the European Investment Bank's representative office in Moldova, and representatives of local authorities in the region. The head of the Agriculture Ministry said that more than 300 investment projects in the agricultural sector have been implemented with EU support in Moldova. "The EU helps us apply modern technologies, become more competitive and offer better quality products on the international market. The purchasing power of the EU is huge, which makes it an attractive market for domestic producers. For this reason, I urge you to continue developing your agricultural business and use the EU financial assistance as much as possible," Viorel Gherciu said. He said that due to the support provided within the Livada Moldovei project, over 2,800 hectares of different plantations have been planted, 82 refrigerated warehouses with a capacity of 75,000 tons were built, 34 fruit and vegetable packaging plants with sorting lines, 26 photovoltaic systems, 7 fruit dryers, 6 walnut processing plants and 7 wineries were modernized. At the same time, the EU has allocated 11.5 million euros to restore and equip state educational and research institutions in the agro-industrial sector.
